Entire watched list reset

Hello, I’ve perused the forums and can’t find anything that’s exactly related to my query so I apologize if I glossed over it.

I’m part of the android beta and currently on version: 2025.2.1 (Database v54) using a Samsung s24u on android 14.

I’m aware I could update both, but don’t want to make any changes right now in case it saves things in their current state permanently.

About an hr ago I popped onto the android app and noticed things had gone a bit haywire.

All tv shows list the total full series episode count as episodes remaining to watch.

Some would still list the next episode I haven’t seen as the appropriate next episode to watch: for example for “The Agency” 2x2 is the next EP I haven’t seen and the app has that showing correctly. But no individual episodes are marked as seen.

Most shows that I’ve finished watching will show “No next episode found” appropriately, but also suggest I’ve seen zero episodes.

Some fully seen shows will have half memories "2x1 or 3x1 is next (but still none checked off as seen) or just show 1x1 as next with a fully lost memory.

The statistics tab shows 28k episodes in my library but zero minutes watched.

As a user for probably 7 yrs or so this is disconcerting of course.

I use trakt and verified that the episodes all show as watched there. However, there is a wrinkle:

Trakt now shows 100 different movies as watched at 810pm and/or 819pm PDT tonight.

It kept their historical watch times, but added these new ones. Tv shows haven’t done that at all that I can see. This glitch seems related, but I’m not sure what steps to go through next.

I disconnected from track and relogged in.

I do have a series guide backup from Feb 04.

I can use that if I need to, but would prefer avoiding having to re-tag 5 months of watches in the app manually.

The history tab for shows does show all my most recent seen EPs correctly as those are reporting from trakt I believe.

Thanks for any and all insight. I can share screenshots if it helps.

*Update*

I found my weekly backup and it reloaded the 9600+ missing tv episodes as 2600+ watched movies. Yeah I need to get out more, haha.

I’m still uncertain what caused the issue.

I’ll go update manually for the past week.

Update #2

So I manually added the watches that were missing from series guide and removed said duplicates from trakt.

5 mins later series guide cleared my entire watch history again.

Any ideas? I used the same backup file, but now it seems silly to just keep repeating this same process.

Also answered via email: make sure to update to the latest release (at least version 2026.1.5). It is compatible with changes Trakt made to their servers so all watched items are properly fetched.

Thanks Uwe.

Doing this reminded me why I was on such an old version to begin with. The Trakt hyperlinks available on a per episode basis no longer work on the newest versions of series guide.

I remember this being a requirement in some countries after a certain update for some reason with trakt.

I had decided it was far more important for my use case to have those links working, versus having to manually search the info myself via trakt’s site (or even worse via their android app).

I typically click them to view exact watch date/time of specific episodes. It lets me then drill down on the full season/history much easier.

There’s no better way to do this than manually searching the show on trakt directly, correct?

Appreciate your and the community’s time.

Google Play has a policy that doesn’t allow linking to websites that sell things that don’t use their billing system.

Anyhow, you might want to keep the app updated via Obtainium instead. If not installed by Google Play, SeriesGuide will display all external links.

Also, Trakt links are currently broken as they don’t work with their new website. I have a fix in development, though.

Aha, very cool. I’ll try the Obtainium option.

Thank you.

As far as the links not working, trakt has become a shell of itself.
Luckily as a long-term vip member I am still able (for now) to use their “v2” site on android at least. This is the version of the site your episode links would take me to. I found it very useful. It still worked last night before I upgraded seriesguide to fix the history clearing issue.

Their much maligned v3 is forced on desktop now even for vip afaik.

I’ve attached a screenshot of their v2 site it was linking to in case you’re curious.

Also, they’re still having significant issues in case anyone else asks about their watch history disappearing. They added 5300+ duplicate movie watches for me last night. That’s exactly when my history was cleared. I read many other members had issues with any third party clients that scrape from trakt.

All the best.

Hi Uwe, I have one more wrinkle I wonder if you can help me.

When I triggered the restoral of the weekly auto backup on the series guide app (keep in mind I never use the movies aspect of seriesguide, just the tv portion so this didn’t occur to me initially) to get my watches re-instated, it worked, but then when I re-synced to trakt within seriesguide it deleted them all again.

I still don’t know why that happened outside of being on that outdated version of seriesguide, but upgraded my seriesguide app accordingly as we discussed. I had to restore that week old backup twice and then series guide has been fine since with the newer app.

However, now after speaking with Trakt’s director via email, they stated that the 5000+ movie rewatches on my acct with them were caused due to said seriesguide backup restorals. So seriesguide apparently tagged a new movie watch for each movie during each restoral.. Once at 20:10 and once at 20:19 PDT on July 3rd.

They only gave me the option to delete all rewatches except the most recent one. This means all my movie watches will be tagged with a July 3rd 2026 20:19 watchtime. This defeats the purpose of the service for me. I like to go back and check what date and time I watched movies for whenever I feel like a rewatch etc.

Is there any way on your end that you can bulk delete those movie watches on seriesguide from just July 3rd (from my time zone in PDT, so will be July 4th in europe of course)? I don’t know why but tv show watches were thankfully not negatively impacted at all with the backup restorals I completed, just movies.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

If you were using an old version that didn’t support changes at Trakt servers to fetch all watched items that makes sense. When you first connect a Trakt account, SeriesGuide will download watched items from Trakt and then upload any that are watched in SeriesGuide, but not in the Trakt account.

Sadly, the folks at Trakt rushed this server change (“pagination”) and have given apps and people only weeks to update. See the “Upcoming API Changes: Watched Endpoints Pagination & Extended Defaults” discussion on their GitHub page.

The app has currently no way of doing so. You would need a tool that would directly work with the Trakt API to do so. Even then, it would have to go through every history entry as they call it and delete only the newest ones.

Thanks again for replying.

Regarding this part: “and then upload any that are watched in SeriesGuide, but not in the Trakt account”, the issue being that these were all watched with appropriate time stamps in the trakt account already.

I’ve never once in my many yrs using seriesguide marked a movie watched in seriesguide. I use movie mate for that or now the actual trakt app.

SG pulled all movie info it had from trakt, and then went ahead and re-uploaded all that data again twice. Once for each restoral I processed.

Regardless of not really understanding why it broke, it’s all moot.

Basically you’re saying I either leave my trakt info hooped (and all my graphs and everything for the year in review are completely turfed of course now), or manually click unwatch and then confirm said selection for each of the ~5300 fake rewatches.

I’ve tried getting trakt to help and of course they’re less than able.

Thanks for trying to assist and if you think of anything else feel free to let me know.

All the best.

Hey, I just wanted to close this by saying I finally found a resolution within the trakt team. There actually is a tool to delete all watches of tv or movie within a set window (on v2, which their director shared the walkthrough on doing). Not sure if v3 has it. It certainly didn’t look like it. This is all I ever wanted. So thank you for your constant support, and I hope this never happens again. Haha.

For anyone interested in where it was:

https://trakt.tv/settings/advanced

This felt sketchy, but after clicking movies, it did pop up with another dialog box which I’ll attach in a secondary post as I can only embed one per post at the moment as a new forum user.

And after typing in my 9 minute window with 5000+ rewatches, it was done.

I was close to deleting them manually…

Haha, cheers.

.

For those that care, this was the last step after clicking movies and crossing fingers that this would actually pop up and not just delete everything right away, haha.
